Harris "Rarris" J. Delahoussaye

October 24, 1940 — February 10, 2022

St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 14, 2022, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville for Harris "Rarris" Joseph Delahoussaye, 81, who passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at The Calcutta House.

 

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home in St. Martinville from 11:00 am until 10:00 pm on Sunday and continue on Monday at 7:00 am until 12:30 pm.

 

A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm on Sunday.

 

Rev. John Joseph will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Lynzie Cormier and Marcie D. Lanerie.

 

Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.

 

Harris, known as "Rarris" to his family friends, was born October 24, 1940, in St. Martinville. He honorably served in the United States Army National Guard. He enjoyed researching genealogy, going to the library, and reading books. Rarris appreciated the outdoors and loved gardening, and taking walks in the woods with Jason, Brian, Kent and Lynzie. His family meant a lot to him, and he cherished his time spent with them. He had a special bond with his nieces and nephews, and they were like his own grandchildren. Harris, "Rarris", will be deeply missed.

 

He is survived by his brother, Raymond Delahoussaye (Joy Rita) of St. Martinville; sisters, Jane D. Zeringue of Lafayette, Shirley Stelly of Opelousas, Luna Babineaux (Shelby) of Cade, Lou Anna Sonnier (Lew) of Lafayette, and Debbie Cormier of St. Martinville; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. and Leontine Menard Delahoussaye; brothers-in-law, Harris "Boog" Zeringue, Gil Cormier, and Dudley Stelly.

 

Pallbearers will be Jason, Brian, and Kent Cormier, Dale Delahoussaye, Billy Babineaux, and Britt Sonnier.

 

Honorary pallbearers will be Haden Cormier, Corbin Cormier, Kass Cormier, Mike Zeringue, Ricky Stelly, Robert Babineaux, and Brett Delahoussaye.
