Mick was honorably discharged from the United States Army. He served in the Korean War and was stationed in Germany, where he ranked as a Corporal. Mick was a self-employed contractor; his strong work ethic and love of construction was evident in the houses he built. He built houses until he was in his 70's and many are still distinguished today as a "Mick Champagne house".
After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and taking bus trips across the country. Mick also found great joy in gardening, cooking and cutting the grass. He loved to work and always kept himself busy.
Mick was a man of great faith and was a life-long parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church. As devout Catholic, he was a retired Usher after 55 years and attended adoration hour on Sundays at the Adoration Chapel. He could always be found with a rosary in his hand, praying the Divine Mercy.
He was a loving and devoted husband and father, and an amazing grandfather and great-grandfather. Mick will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Doris Ann Mason Champagne; son, Chris Champagne (Summer); daughter-in-law, Liz Champagne; sisters, Mazel Dwyer and Elise Verrett; grandchildren, Amberly Champagne, Michael Champagne, John Champagne (Megan), Tommy Champagne, Ava Champagne and Cohen Champagne; and great-grandchild, Francis Champagne.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oleus Champagne, Sr. and Elise Champagne; son, Mickey Gerard Champagne; brothers, Earl Champagne, Howard "Mack" Champagne, Edward Champagne, Linden Champagne, Sr., Oleus Champagne, Jr. and Harold Champagne; and sisters, Verna Guidry, Maudrey Landry and Emma Lou Serrette.
