BreauxBridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Hazel Ann Thomas Barber, 70, who passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2010.
Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge.
Fr. Joseph Campion will officiate at the Funeral Mass.
A devout Catholic who prayed daily, Hazel was a longtime parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church where she was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver, Court 49. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, taking care of people who were in need, and most especially caring for her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. Hazel loved the Christmas season and celebrating the Christmas Mass each and every year. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her son, Alton Joseph Barber, Jr. of Breaux Bridge; her daughter, Sonya B. Savoy of St. Martinville; two brothers, Roland Thomas of Breaux Bridge , and Charles Thomas of Houston , TX ; two sisters, Justine Onezine of Houston , TX , and Freda Guillory of Orange , TX ; three grandchildren, Crystal Champagne, Christy Barber, and Christopher Barber; and one great grandchild, Donovan Champagne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Barber, Sr.; parents, Albert and Della T. Thomas; one brother, Clarence Thomas, Sr.; and two sisters, Louella Wiltz and Mary Blackwell Griffith.
Pallbearers will be James Blackwell, E'Retriuous Gus, Sidney Gus, Clarence Thomas, Jr., Mark Thomas, and Felix Wiltz.
Honorary pallbearers will be Alton Barber, Jr., Christopher Barber, Sterling Benjamin, Marvin Hampton, Alvin Jolivette, Frederick Louis, Calvin Onezine, Thomas Onezine, Angus Parson, John Savoy, Sr., Frank Sonnier, Charles Thomas, and Roland Thomas.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and continue at 7 a .m. until 9:30 a .m. on Saturday.
A rosary will be recited Friday evening.
