Hazel Derise Barrilleaux

Jeanerette - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 23, 2016, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Jeanerette for Hazel Derise Barrilleaux, 87, who passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, in Jeanerette. A gathering of family and friends will be at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Friday, with Recitation of the Rosary at 11:00 AM. Rev. Jody Simoneaux will be the Celebrant. Entombment will follow at St. John Cemetery in Jeanerette. A native and lifelong resident of Jeanerette, Hazel Derise Barrilleaux was born to the late Ulysse and Anna Durocher Derise on November 1, 1929. She was a longtime member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where she served as Eucharistic Minister, administered Eucharist to the homebound, and taught CCD classes. Mrs. Barrilleaux served as Commissioner in Charge of voting polls in St. Mary parish for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, and cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hazel is survived by four daughters, Tracy Landry and husband Bradley of New Iberia, Myra Hare of AL, Johanna Bourgeois and husband Langdon of Jeanerette, and Vicky Lowry of Broussard; two sons, Ronald Barrilleaux and wife Gwendolyn of Thibodaux, and Gerard Barrilleaux and wife Mary Frances of Dehnam Springs; a sister, Audrey Crocker of Bayou Vista; a sister-in-law, Florence Derise of Morgan City; a brother-in-law, Bruce Williams of Jeanerette; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barrilleaux was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Barrilleaux; a daughter, Maxine Marie Barrilleaux; three brothers, Hilton Derise, Olan "Gob" Derise, and Julius "Crow" Derise; and two sisters, Anna Belle Williams and Beatrice Derise. Pallbearers will be grandsons, and gift-bearers will be granddaughters. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 7732 Goodwood Blvd. #110, Baton Rouge, LA 70806. Pellerin Funeral Home of New Iberia, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd., New Iberia, LA 70560, (337-365-3331) is in charge of arrangements.
