VIEW VIDEO TRIBUTE New Iberia- Relatives and friends are invited to a Roman Catholic Mass of Christian Burial for Hazel Hebert Broussard, 94, that will be celebrated 10:00 AM Friday, March 20, 2009 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, in New Iberia. Mrs. Broussard passed away Monday, March 16, 2009 in New Iberia. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Rev. Charles Langlois will be the celebrant. The readings will be proclaimed by granddaughters, Lisa Hardwick and Leah Meador. Musical selections will be performed by great granddaughters Genie Gulotta, Mary Gulotta, Ruth Gulotta, Ramsey Gulotta, and Hailey Hensgens. Gift Bearers include Joan Hensgens, Chantel Walker, and Michelle Dugas. Hazel Marie Hebert Broussard was born on January 9, 1915 in New Iberia. She was the 6th of eleven children of the late Ovide and Elvine Theriot Hebert. She was married on her 21st birthday to Louis A. Broussard, Sr. and they had three children. Hazel was a homemaker and a super cook who was known for her delicious eggplant dressing and oyster dressing at all family gatherings. She enjoyed traveling with the Gloria Mundi Travel Club and was able to visit all 50 states, Rome, Venice, Medjugorje, Florence, and took several cruises. She was a professed Lay Carmelite in which she held the office of Director, Secretary and Treasurer. She also taught CCD classes for St. Peter's church. Hazel worked for several banks, Louisiana License Bureau, and CLECO, where she retired in 1981. She is survived by her daughter, Juanita Broussard Gulotta and husband Paul Gulotta, Sr. of New Iberia; two sons, Harvey Broussard and wife Yvonne of Lafayette, Louis A. Broussard, Jr. and wife Laura of New Iberia; sister, Alice Hebert of New Iberia; sister-in-law, Helen Broussard Marin of New Iberia; ten grandchildren, Dr. Paul Gulotta, Jr. and wife Cindy, Stuart Gulotta and wife Margaret, Mark Gulotta and wife Margie, Eric Gulotta and wife Bettina, Joan G. Hensgens and husband Donnie, David Gulotta and wife Stephanie, Chantel B. Walker and husband Perry, Michelle B. Dugas and husband Ray, Lisa B. Hardwick and husband Dr. Carl, and Leah B. Meador and husband Patrick; 33 great grandchildren, and 6 great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis A. Broussard, Sr.; her parents, Ovide and Elvine Hebert; seven brothers, Herbert, Vernice, Pierre Doris, Lester, Murphy, Paulton, Stanley; and two sisters, Viola Domingue Degeyter, and Irene Landry. Pallbearers include Dr. Paul Gulotta, Stuart Gulotta, Mark Gulotta, Eric Gulotta, David Gulotta, and Ray Dugas. Honorary pallbearers include Perry Walker, Donnie Hensgens, Dr. Carl Hardwick, and Patrick Meador. Donations may be made to the Sisters of Mt. Carmel, P.O. Box 1160, Lacombe, LA. 70445-1160. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff and residents of Azalea Estates for their extraordinary care and compassion given to Hazel during her stay. A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Thursday.
