Hazel Melancon Elkins

Henderson - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm, on Friday, October 24, 2014, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Henderson, for Hazel Melancon Elkins, 91, who passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at St. Agnes Healthcare & Rehab Center. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 pm until 10:00 pm on Thursday, and continue on Friday at 7:00 am until 12:30 pm, at Pellerin Funeral Home in Henderson. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm on Thursday. Rev. Garrett McIntyre will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Kali Rebert and Wanda Olivier. Gift Bearers will be Holly Rebert and Lauren Theriot. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. Hazel enjoyed shopping at the local thrift-shops and going to the casino. She loved spending time visiting with her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanette Courville and her husband, Rogers, of Henderson; 4 grandchildren, Dennis Theriot, Emilean Courville, Wanda Olivier, and Dupie Theriot, Jr.; 11 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Octave Frug Melancon; her 1st husband, Calvert Guidry; 2nd husband, Bernice Elkins; four sisters, Bernice Melancon, Birday Ortiz, Lovenia Brasseaux, and Bursay Case; two brothers, Wilbert and Buck Melancon; and two grandchildren, Terry Paul Theriot and Debbie Rebert. Pallbearers will be Dupie Theriot, Jr., Ray Rebert, Dennis Theriot, Ronnie Courville, Hunter Olivier, and Keith Courvelle. Honorary pallbearer will be Rogers Courville.
