Hazel Mae Valsin Wiltz

That I may gaze on the loveliness of the Lord and contemplate his temple.” Psalm 27:1On Friday, September 3, 2021, at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center, our dear Hazel Mae Valsin Wiltz, surrounded by her loving family, serenely departed this life on earth to begin her journey towards her eternal home in heaven. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at St. Louis Mission Chapel in Parks. Reverend Edward Degeyter, family friend, will serve as Celebrant and Homilist for the Mass. Reverend Nicholas DuPré, the Parish Priest of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and St. Louis Mission Chapel, and Reverend Donavan Labbé of St. Peter Church of Morrow, Louisiana, will Concelebrate. Adult Servers will be Joseph Carnell and Wayne Angelle. Music will be provided by Norman Christopher Dugas. Scriptures will be read by Mary Alice Valsin. Gift Bearers will be Betty Wiltz, Octave “Jim” Valsin and Russell Valsin. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7:00 am until 9:30am on Thursday.A Rosary will be prayed and recited by Rose Solarie Dugas at 8:30 am.Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery in St. Martinville. Hazel was born on August 19, 1944, her parents, Ophelia and Eugene Valsin, Sr., She was a graduate of Adam Carlson High School. She was joined in marriage with Louis John Wiltz on September 5, 1970. She was a member of St. Louis Chapel for over 50 years. She served as an Extraordinary Minister and Homebound Minister for the sick and shut-in for 28 years. During different times in her life, she was employed as a factory seamstress, a substitute teacher at Parks Elementary School, a daycare worker at Blessed Beginnings, and a Food and Nutrition Technician at Trinity Catholic for many years. Hazel was first and foremost a caregiver to her parents, children and grandchildren for many, many years. Hazel, affectionately known as Nana to her grandkids, and Shun, to her siblings was a prayerful person who loved and prayed for her family and community quietly reciting the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet multiple times during the day; offering her prayers for those in need. She also enjoyed reading mystery novels and biographies, working crossword puzzles and word search, cooking and baking favorite meals for family members, listening to gospel and country music and most importantly, she cherished receiving daily phone calls and conversing with her children, grandchildren and siblings. All these little parts of the daily routines will be dearly missed and forever remain in our hearts as true gifts and everlasting memories.She leaves to treasure her gifts and wisdom of a wonderful life, her four children: Michelle (Harvey) Mason of Cypress Island, Brad Wiltz of Parks; Charlene (Larry) Coutee of Gonzales and Belinda Wiltz of Parks. Two Grandchildren: Elijah and Gianna Mason and a grandpup, Sonny. Three brothers: Octave “Jim” Valsin, Milton Joseph (Evelyn) Valsin and Russell (Mary Alice) Valsin. Three sisters: Dorothy Anthony, Theresa Etienne and Betty (Robert) Wiltz. In- laws, Madeline Valsin, Edward and Marie Edna Wiltz, Francis James Wiltz, Mabel Wiltz and Cecile Wiltz. Her Godfather, Alcee Valsin. Her Godchildren, Eugene Valsin, III. and Jacqueline Anthony. And a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis John Wiltz, her parents, Ophelia and Eugene Valsin, Sr.; her siblings Emily Valsin Raymond, Francis (Mary Ann) Valsin, Eugene Valsin, Jr., Modeste (Martin) Phillips. Mother and Father-in-law Edward Curley and Bernadette Wiltz. Brothers and Sisters in Law James Etienne, Clarence Anthony, Norman and Mary Mildred Dugas, Shirley Charles Wiltz, Belle Valsin, Anita Valsin. Nieces and nephews Stephen Dugas, Mary Mandy Batiste, Jermaine Wiltz, Alberta Phillips Robert Phillips, Francine Williams, Michael Raymond, Meghan Anthony and her Godchild Jonathan Wiltz. Pallbearers will be Brad Wiltz, Gregory Valsin, Harvey Mason, Vincent Wiltz, Jonathan Narcisse and Ephream Dugas. Honorary Pallbearers include Larry Coutee, Elijah Mason, Russell Valsin, Octave “Jim” Valsin, Milton Joseph Valsin, Robert Wiltz, Edward Wiltz, Francis James Wiltz, Eugene Valsin, III. and Dr. John Beyt.The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Iberia Medical Center, Oschner Lafayette General Medical Center, Dr. Michelle Menard, Dr. Robert Lewis and Dr. Gerard Sigue for their diligent care of our mother.
