New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for Helen Olivier Bourgeois, 78, who passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at her home.
A gathering of family and friends will be at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia on Friday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, and will continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM.
A rosary, led by the Catholic Daughters, will be prayed at 6:30 PM on Friday.
Rev. Francois Sainte-Marie will be the Celebrant.
Entombment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery in New Iberia.
A long time resident of New Iberia, Helen Olivier Bourgeois was born in St. Martinville, LA on December 10, 1938 to the late David and Olive Crochet Olivier. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved to cook and feed her family. Helen spent a lot of time at their camp in the Basin fishing with her sister-in-law. Sometimes they caught so many fish, they had to sit on the ice chest to keep it closed! Helen also enjoyed playing Bingo, going to the casino, and watching her hummingbirds, but the best times of her life were spent with her best friend and the love of her life, Darrel. .
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Darrel J. Bourgeois; son, Patrick D. Bourgeois, Sr. and wife Eva of New Iberia; daughters, Juanita B. Verret and husband David of Jeanerette, and Eve M. Dworaczyk and husband Sedric of New Iberia; ten gandchildren, Shawn Rollins, Ernie Rollins, Emily Maturin, Chad Touchet, Jamie Touchet, Christopher Leleux, Sr., Victor Goodman, Axel Dworaczyk, Patrick D. Bourgeois, Jr., and Kristi N. Bourgeois; 18 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Allen and Alton Olivier; and a daughter, Carolyn M. Folkerth.
Pallbearers will be Patrick D. Bourgeois, Sr., Christopher Leleux, Sr., Shawn Rollins, Axel Dworaczyk, Patrick D. Bourgeois, Jr., and Sedric Dworaczyk.
Honorary pallbearers are Christopher Leleux, Jr., and Kayden Louis Duhon.
