New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church New Iberia in New Iberia, for Helen Freyou Gonsoulin, 87, who passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2015, in New Iberia.
Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Msgr. Richard Greene will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Tuesday. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM.
A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Gonsoulin was born on January 16, 1928 to Leodias and Eunice Babin Freyou. She was a member of the Busy Bees Home Demonstration Club, and the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church Choir, and was also a Sacred Heart of Jesus Catechism Teacher. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, baking cakes, and taking photographs of family and friends. Mrs. Gonsoulin was a good listener and always believed in putting others first. Throughout the years she supported many Seminarians on their journey to becoming a Priest.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Andrew Gonsoulin of New Iberia; daughters, Darlene G. French of Saint Martinville, Theresa G. Webster and husband Ronald of Houston, Texas, Meleesa G. Broussard and husband Matthew of Lafayette, Annette G. McKelvey and husband David of Amarillo, Texas; brother, Harold Freyou and wife Ruth of New Iberia; sister, Hilda Blanchard and husband Harvey Blanchard, Sr. of New Iberia; grandchildren, Frank A. French, IV, Bjhan A. French, Jade F. Fontenot, Dylan W. Broussard; great-grandchildren, Amelie Fontenot,Reese Fontenot, and Isabella French.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Freyou; sister, Hazel Louviere; and a son-in-law, Frank A. French, III.
Pallbearers will be David McKelvey, Ronald Webster, Matthew Broussard, Frank A. French IV, Bjhan A. French, Dylan Broussard, and Shaun Fontenot.
Honorary pallbearers will be Harvey Blanchard Sr., Harold Freyou, and Gilbert Gossen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 2514 Old Jeanerette Road, New Iberia, LA.
