Coteau Holmes - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Coteau Holmes, for Helen Marie Bertrand Halphen, 77, who passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:30 am until 9:00 pm on Friday, and continue at 8:00 am until 10:15 am on Saturday, at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Friday. Rev. Joseph Padinjarepeedika, CMI, will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Adele Catherine Comeaux and Pam Bertrand Romero. Gift Bearers will be Kiley, Kristen, Kayley, and Bailey Bertrand. Interment will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Coteau Holmes. Mrs. Halphen was a lifelong parishioner of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and was very involved with her church parish while serving on various committees and typing the weekly church bulletin for many years. Along with her husband, Conrad, she was a recipient of The Bishops Service Medal. A devout Catholic, she taught religion classes in her home and hosted Come Lord Jesus meetings. Helen enjoyed meeting with her Pokeno Club friends monthly and her favorite thing to watch was 'Dancing With The Stars'. She looked forward to visiting with Melvin and Grace every evening. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Conrad Joseph Halphen, Jr.; her daughter, Stephanie Julia Halphen Comeaux and her husband, James Stephen (Steve) Comeaux; her brother, Melvin Bertrand, Sr. and his wife, Grace; her sister-in-law, Patsy Lastrapes Bertrand; her grandson, Aaron Christopher Comeaux; granddaughter, Adele Catherine Comeaux; great grandson, Kevin James Comeaux; and great granddaughter, Hayden Marie Comeaux. She is preceded in death by her parents, Stephan Joseph Bertrand and Mathilde Chataignier Bertrand; and her brother, Larry Bertrand Sr. Pallbearers will be Steve Comeaux, Aaron Christopher Comeaux, Melvin Bertrand, Jr., Kenneth James Bertrand, Larry 'Possum' Bertrand, and Toby James Bertrand. Honorary pallbearers will be Kendall Romero, Rocky Touchet, Cody Bertrand, Blake Bertrand, Treavor Romero, Logan Romero, Kevin Comeaux, Melvin Bertrand, Sr., and Tyler Bertrand.
