New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Monday, January 7, 2019 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Iberia, Louisiana for Helen Dronet Broussard Marin who died Friday, January 4th in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum.
Rev. Patrick Broussard and Rev. Ed Degeyter will co-celebrate the Catholic Mass.
Visitation will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Church from 9:30 am to 11:30am on Monday, January 7th with a rosary at 11:00am.
Pallbearers will be her son, David Broussard, son in laws Andrew Lahasky & Joseph Ligi, grandsons, Lucas Broussard and Jacques Gaudet, and nephew, Tommy Carlson.
Born on Jefferson Island, Mrs. Marin spent much of her life in New Iberia. She was married to Fred Broussard in 1944 until his untimely death in 1970. She was lucky enough to find love again and marry Rufus “Pop” Marin, Jr. in 1975 until his death in 2008.
Mrs. Marin wore many hats throughout her life but the one she treasured the most was the role of being the mother to her seven children. She was extremely active in the St. Peter’s Catholic Church youth ministry and adult choir. She worked as a nanny, nurses’ aide, waitress, bus driver and bank teller before retiring to work with Pop in the abstract business.
Survivors include daughter JoAnn Ligi and husband Joseph of Tyler, Texas, son David Broussard and wife Carol of Baton Rouge, daughter Lena Lahasky and husband Andrew of Spring, Texas, daughter Lydia Hoffman and husband Rich of Alexandria, Virginia; son-in-law, Rev. Patrick Broussard; daughter-in-law, Kim Broussard; 16 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
Mrs. Marin is preceded in death by her parents, Elodias Dronet and Elina Washespark, her two husbands, Fred Broussard Sr. and Rufus Marin, Jr. and three of her children, Fred Broussard, Jr., Russell Broussard and Aminthe Broussard.
The family would like to extend their extreme gratitude for the care and compassion provided to Helen by Toni Molaire, Brenda James, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospice and her family at Azalea Estates.
