St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Notre Dame Catholic Church for Helen L. Martin, 89, who passed away on June 13, 2023, surrounded by her family.
A visitation will take place at Notre Dame Catholic Church on Saturday from 7:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM.
A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 AM on Saturday.
Reverend Marvin Gyasie, SVD will officiate at the Funeral Mass.
Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery Mausoleum.
Helen was born on June 19, 1933, in St. Martinville to the late Archibald and Maggie Clement Ledet. Helen was a devoted mother who always put her family first. Her warm and nurturing personality earned her the title of the "glue" that held her family together. She never missed an opportunity to impart wisdom to anyone who sought her counsel. Family gatherings were always made special by her delicious home-cooked meals - a true testament to her love for them.
Her commitment to family extended beyond just her children and grandchildren. Helen had a special bond with all of her siblings and loved spending time with them. She valued their relationships and always made sure to prioritize spending time with each of them.
Helen's hobbies included cooking and spending time with her family - especially her children and grandchildren. She leaves behind an immense legacy that continues through the generations of those whose lives she has touched.
Her passing has left her family heartbroken, but her legacy of strength, guidance, wisdom, and courage that she carried with her lives on.
She is survived by her son, Dennis Martin, Sr.; daughters, Brendaline Etienne (Paul) and Gloria Martin; brother, Clarence Ledet (Shirley) of Lafayette; grandchildren, Dennis Martin, Jr. (Stephanie), Dwayne Martin, Dawn Martin Kitchen (Frank), Dennisha Martin, D'Shawn Etienne (Carla), and Katelyn Etienne; 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Archibald and Maggie Clement Ledet; daughter, Cynthia Martin; brothers, Melton Ledet, Melvin Ledet, Malton Ledet, Dalton Ledet, Wallace Ledet, Sr. and Clifton Ledet; and her sisters, Lillian Ledet Wiltz, Mary-Margaret Ledet, Lydia Ledet James and Olivia Ledet Wiltz.
Pallbearers will be Emile Wiltz, Dennis Martin, Jr., Dwayne Martin, Sr., Dwayne Martin,Jr., Ambrose Bernard and Colby James.
