St. Martinville - A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 29,2024, at 2:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Chapel in St. Martinville, for Helen Lucille Tabor, age 89, who passed away Friday, November 22,2024, at Landmark of Acadiana.
Visitation will take place at the funeral home in St. Martinville on Friday, November 29, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM.
A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 AM by Mrs. Dot Daspit.
Rev. Bill Melancon will officiate the Memorial service. Readers will be Mrs. Simonette Roberts Brown and Landen Dugas.
Burial will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum.
Survivors include her son, Alton Tabor Jr. and his wife, Gwendolyn; daughters, Carolyn Willis and her husband, Ruffin, and Bonnie Vann and her husband, Philip; grandchildren, Amber Vann Dugas, Wyatt Tabor and Gage Vann; and her great grandchildren, Landen Dugas, Reese Dugas, and Adeline Vann.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Alton Tabor Sr.; daughter, Deborah Tabor; grandson, Garrett Tabor; parents, Louis and Helen Hebert Oubre; sisters, Bertha Lasseigne and Dorothy Thibodeaux; and her brother, Patrick Oubre.
Helen was employed by the City of St. Martinville for 28 years. Being civic and community minded, she was proudly selected as a recipient of the Outstanding Young Women of America Award for her accomplishments and service to her community, country and profession. She served as an election worker and as secretary for the Planning and Zoning of St. Martinville for many years.
Beyond her professional achievements, Helen was a devoted mother and beloved granny.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and most of all spending time with her family. She was quite the Bourre' player and enjoyed getting together with the ladies for an afternoon of card playing. She also loved fishing and spending time with her great grandchildren.
She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for her vibrant and feisty spirit, her boundless energy, and her unwavering faith in God.
