Henrietta Sophie DeVries (Van Den Broek)

July 15, 1921 — August 13, 2006

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was taken into God's loving arms on Sunday morning, August 13th at Lady of the Oaks Retirement Village after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hendrik Gaele DeVries, her parents, Otto Hendrik and Henrietta Sophie van den Broek, and her sister, Hannie deRuiter. She is survived by her daughters, Johanna Carolijn Dobson of Eagleville, Pa. and Aukje DeVries Pisano & her husband Joseph R. Pisano, Jr. of Lafayette, La.; five grandchildren, Jantina H. Mulder Norris, Wesley H. Dobson, Shaun M. Dobson, Victoria Nicole Pisano and Antony Joseph Pisano; two great-grandchildren, Manuel Mulder and Dakota Norris; and two brothers, Ad and Herman van den Broek. Rita grew up in the Netherlands and survived the Nazi occupation there during World War II. She and her family sheltered many American soldiers during that time. Rita also sang at the USO clubs where she met her husband Hendrik. Coming to America in 1957, they settled in Wisconsin and preceded to raise their family. Rita loved to knit, crochet, sew, craft and travel, but above all else her family always came first. Rita's family wants to thank the staff of Lady of the Oaks and Hospice of Acadiana for their wonderful support during our time of sorrow. Your help has made this long and arduous journey bearable.
