New Iberia - Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Henriette Schwing Dougherty, 83, who passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2015 in New Iberia.
A gathering of family and friends will be Monday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Monday. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM.
Rev. Nicholas DuPre' will be the Celebrant.
Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery in New Iberia.
A native of New Iberia, Mrs. Dougherty was born on August 12, 1931 to John Elmer Schwing and Anna Blanchet Schwing, and was a graduate of Mount Carmel Academy and the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau. She received her Masters plus 30 from USL, now the University of Louisiana Lafayette, and was an English Teacher and Guidance Counselor at New Iberia Senior High and Mount Carmel. Mrs. Dougherty was also a Speech and Debate Coach.
She was a member of The Fortnightly, Live Oak Society, WOW Group, and was past president of the New Iberia Garden Club. Mrs. Dougherty volunteered at the St. Francis Diner and the Social Service Center, and was a Eucharistic Homebound Minister. She enjoyed playing Bridge, Pokeno, and Tennis.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Lassalle and husband John of New Iberia, and Theresa Neustrom and husband Duane of New Iberia; sister, Flora Therese Schwing Broussard of New Iberia; brothers, F. Paul Schwing, James W. Schwing and wife Beverly, Pierre Schwing, Sr. all of New Iberia, Brother-in-law, Richard "Dick" Allain of New Iberia; grandchildren, Kelli Sonner and husband Justin, Brian Neustrom, Kathleen Bishop and husband Brennan, Mary Elizabeth Neustrom, Patrick Neustrom, John Lasselle, Jr., Jeanne' Dupuis and husband Tra, Micky Faucheux and husband Eddie, and Kyli Lassalle; and a great grandson, William Bishop.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Joseph Dougherty; brothers, Rev. John E. Schwing S.J., Jules Schwing, George Schwing; sisters, Anna Louise Schwing Allain, and Mary Schwing Robbins.
Pallbearers will be John Lassalle, Sr., John Lassalle, Jr., Duane Neustrom, Brian Neustrom, Patrick Neustrom, Brennan Bishop, and Justin Sonner.
Honorary pallbearers include Pierre Schwing, Sr., F. Paul Schwing, James W. Schwing, and Richard "Dick" Allain.
