Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, November 24, 2007, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Herbert James Jean Batiste, Sr., 73, who passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2007 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge. Fr. James Fallon, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, will conduct the service. Mr. Jean Batiste served as a faithful usher at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He enjoyed going to the race track and playing cards. Survivors include his companion, Mary Lee Lewis, of Breaux Bridge; three sons, Shawn Lewis, of Breaux Bridge, Irvin Jean Batiste and his wife, Camella, Herman Jean Batiste, all of Lafayette; one step-son, Richard Lewis, of Texas City, TX; three daughters, Delondra Cyprien, of Breaux Bridge, Carolyn Jean Batiste, of Lafayette, and Lana Lewis, of Breaux Bridge; one step daughter, Melissa Lewis, of Breaux Bridge; three brothers, Edwin Jean Batiste, Harold Lee Jean Batiste, and Edward Wiltz, all of Breaux Bridge; one sister, Verline Jean Batiste, of Breaux Bridge; 29 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Weston and Louisiana Jean Batiste; one son, Herbert Jean Batiste, Jr.; two daughters, Carol and Susan Jean Batiste; one brother, Roosevelt Jean Batiste; and one sister, Mary Rose Dalcourt. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Friday and continue at 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pallbearers will be Shawn Lewis, Richard Lewis, Isaiah Lewis, Jermine Davis, Joseph Ray Jean Batiste, and Ambrose Edwards. Pellerin Funeral Home, of Dauterive & Carver Streets, is in charge of arrangements.
