Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, March 26, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in for Howard Alexander Sr., 73, who passed away on Monday, March 15, 2021.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home 9:00 am until 10:15 am on Friday, March 26, 2021.
Rev. Ugochukwu Jerome Cletus SSJ will officiate at the Funeral Mass.
Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge.
Howard, better known to many as "Doc", was born July 17, 1947. He was a graduate of Carver High School and then went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Psychology with a minor in Social Working at Southern University. After graduation, he accepted a job with Hillcrest Boy's Home as a Guidance Counselor in New York. When he came back home to Breaux Bridge, he worked for Martin Mills for 20+ years, St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office for 15+ years and served as a Breaux Bridge City Councilman for 25 years.
Doc was actively involved in the community. He started many programs such as, S.A.D.D, youth summer camps, youth Christmas parties, and was an advocate and sponsor to renovate the Judge Carl Williams Park in Breaux Bridge. His love for his community showed greatly through his generosity and many friends made throughout the years.
In his spare time, he enjoyed trying his luck with buying lottery tickets and betting on horse races. He was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to the New Orleans Saints and LSU football. Doc loved spending time with his family and friends, especially on Sundays when everyone would get together to cook and visit. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his son, Howard Alexander Jr. (Carolyn); grandchild, Tariq Alexander; brothers, Joseph Alexander, Richard Alexander (Lorrine) and Patrick Alexander; sisters, Helen Clement, Judy Lawal (Lambo), Paula Alexander, and Rachel Alexander; close family friends, Tammy Dugas, Sheila Landry, Rose Thibodeaux, Scott Angelle, Ricky Calais, Tommy Thibodeaux, Brenda Hobbs, Jack Dell, Lawrence “Popeye” Boudreaux, Rena Hebert, and Stacy Jefferson; godchildren, Payton Dugas and Jina Jefferson; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and Sheriff Becket Breaux. .
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cassie Joseph Alexander, Sr. and Alberta Davis Alexander; brothers, Cassie Joseph Alexander, Jr., Robert Alexander and Lloyd Alexander; nephews, Cedrick James Clement and Kirby J. Alexander; and close family friends, David "Big Dave" Thibodeaux, Boo Potier, and Charlie Dugas.
Pallbearers will be Tariq Alexander, Trai Broussard, Kenneth Joseph, Sr., Reginald Semere, Alfred Williams, and Denzel Alexander.
Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Alexander, Richard Alexander, Joseph Alexander, Alton Lee, Dalton Alexander, and Jim Wiltz.
