Rynella - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at St. Marcellus Catholic Church in Rynella for Howard P. Richard, 91, who passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2018, in Rynella.
Entombment will follow in the church mausoleum with military honors by the Iberia Honor Guard.
Rev. Eugene Tremie will officiate. Readers will be Candace L. Simpson and Penny Richard. Gift Bearers include Katherine H. Broussard, Kylie P. Dartez, and Amber P. Olivier.
A gathering of family and friends will Monday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary, led by the Mens Rosary Group, will be prayed at 7:00 pm Monday. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 am until 9:15 am.
A native of Loreauville, Mr. Richard was born on August 28, 1927 to the late Oscar and Delia Lecamus Richard. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was employed by the International Salt/Akzo Nobel Salt Company at the Avery Island Mine for 45 years. A member of the American Legion Post 335 and an avid fisherman, Mr. Richard loved being on the water and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Irene Broussard Richard; daughters, Mary R. Lopez of Baton Rouge, Gwen R. Horton and husband Wayne of New Iberia, Janet R. Prioux and husband Ronald of New Iberia, Ann R. Pommier and husband Gil of New Iberia, Allison R. Flash and husband Mike of New Iberia, Dawn R. Romero and husband Tim of New Iberia, and Nicole R. Fortmayer and husband Greg of Marrero; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and one due to arrive in March.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lester Richard and Louis Richard, sisters, Lily R. Myers and Ledie R. Legnon; son-in-law, Pete J. Lopez, Jr.; and grandson, Rhett Flash.
Pallbearers will be Craig A. Lopez, Kevin W. Horton, Christopher R. Prioux, Nicholas J. Pommier, Zachary R. Romero, Gerik P. Fortmayer, and Casey Lopez.
Honorary pallbearers include Landon Romero, Justin Fortmayer, Wayne Horton, Ronald Prioux, Gil Pommier, Mike Flash, Tim Romero, Greg Fortmayer, Mike Myers, Lonnie Myers, Richard Legnon, and Dean Richard.
