New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at St. Peter Catholic Church, in New Iberia for Howard "Monk" Terrell, Jr. 65, who died Saturday, May 3, 2008 in Lafayette.
Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rev. Charles Langlois will be the Celebrant. Readers will be Marsha Sills, Jeanne Avery Crochet, and Kate Crochet. Gift Bearers include Kate Crochet and Jeanne Avery Crochet.
A native of Avery Island and longtime resident of New Iberia, Monk worked for Texaco at the Henry Gas Plant for over 30 years, and was veteran of the U.S. Marines. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid athlete enjoying basketball, football and tennis.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Romero Terrell of New Iberia; son, Tony Christopher Terrell of New Iberia; daughters, Amy Terrell Romero of Youngsville, Susan Terrell Crochet and husband Chad of New Iberia; brother, John Terrell and wife Phyllis of New Iberia; sister, Mary Terrell Sills and husband Tony of Pineville; granddaughters, Jeanne Avery Crochet and Kate Crochet.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Terrell, Sr. and Wilda LeBlanc Terrell; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E.P. Terrell and Mr. and Mrs. Huval LeBlanc; son-in-law, Terry James Romero.
Pallbearers will be John Terrell, Jonathan Terrell, Tony Terrell, Chad Crochet, Barron Kennedy, and Joey Broussard.
Honorary pallbearers include Julian Buteau and all of Monk's tennis friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be Monday from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Monday. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105-1942.
