New Iberia - Mrs. Emile J. Courrege, 95, the former Irene Marie LeBlanc, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, April 8, 2013, surrounded by her family and her caregiver. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Pellerin Funeral Home, in New Iberia. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday from 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Pellerin Funeral Home, in New Iberia. A longtime resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Courrege was born in Coteau on December 24, 1917, and was a graduate of Jeanerette High School. She was a parishioner of Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, and a past member of the Iberia Garden Club. She had taught catechism classes and had been a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop leader. Mrs. Courrege was also active in the PTAs of Catholic High and Mt. Carmel Academy. Upon the death of her husband, she and their son operated Courreges Auto Wrecking Yard until her retirement in 1982. An avid reader, she loved world history, and traveling with her family. All that knew her will miss her sense of humor, and vivid storytelling. Mrs. Courrege is survived by her son, John Edward Courrege and wife Dana of New Iberia, daughters. Catherine C. Huckaby and husband Victor of New Iberia, and Susan C. Phillips and husband Gary of Denver, Colorado; 11 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren, and her godchild, Michael Bodin. She was preceded in death by her husband Emile J. Courrege; her parents, Edward and Ezilda Domingues LeBlanc; a daughter, Cheryl C. Burguieres; a grandson, Steven Courrege; and her brother, Clifton M. Bodin. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Emile Courrege, John Courrege, II, Logan Phillips, Baron Phillips, Vic Huckaby, and Martial Burguieres. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Doctors Carl Ditch, and his staff, and Thomas Borland, and an expression of special gratitude to her devoted caregiver of 8 years, Charlene Schaubert. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in their mothers name to the Alzheimers Association, the Cheryl C. Burguieres Library at Catholic High School in New Iberia, or to the charity of your choice.
