Irene Kately

St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Saint Martinville, for Irene Gerard Kately, 90, who passed away on Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Rev. Augustinus Seran SVD, will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Keisha Ledet and Troyetta Mallery and gift bearers will be Darius and Xavier Honara and Dentra Noel. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Saint Martinville. Mrs. Kately was devoted caregiver to her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family, in which she was truly grateful for the many occasions she could spend with them. Mrs. Kately always told her children to "follow your first mind" - words that she wanted them to remember and live by throughout their lives. She is survived by her son, Christopher Kately of St. Martinville; two daughters, Gail Kately Ledet of Houston, TX, and Glenda (Timothy) Sonnier of Saint Martinville; her sister, Rita Papillion of Opelousas; four grandchildren, Kesha and Robert Ledet, of Houston, TX, Kari Westley and Ashley Charles, both of St. Martinville; and three great grandchildren, Darius and Xavier Honara of Houston, TX, and DeAntre Noel of St. Martinville. She is preceded in death by her father, Edmond Gerard Sr., mother, Elma Malveaux Gerard; her husband, Joseph Kately; three brothers, Mason Gerard, Edmond Gerard Jr., and Preston Gerard; four sisters, Lillian Gerard, Althea Gerard Wiltz, Cecelia Gerard Mallery, and Margaret Gerard Cormier; and a grandson, Roderick Ledet. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Notre Dame Catholic Church from 7:00 am until 10:45 am on Saturday. Pallbearers will be Mark Alexander, Jerome Mallery, Troy Hypolite, Jr., Charles Noel, Israel Mallery, and Claston Mallery. Pellerin Funeral Home , (337.332.2111), is in charge of arrangements.
