VIEW VIDEO TRIBUTE Cecilia - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 29, 2008, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cecilia, for Isabelle Gabriel Alexander, 80, who passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge. Interment will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Cecilia. Isabelle was born February 15, 1928, to Ernest and Isabella (Babineaux) Gabriel in Arnaudville, LA. An angel of the Lord came and took her to her heavenly home on November 22, 2008. "Nan" affectionately called by he family and friends, was a kind-hearted person that had a great zest for life. She was a lifelong resident of this community and a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Her deep sense of compassion moved her to care for the sick and infirmed. She was especially drawn to the elderly and loved attending to their needs. This was her calling. She worked at Trappey's Cannery for over 20 years. Her life was centered around her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and a loyal friend. She possessed a strong sense of dignity and character. She strived to instill these positive qualities in her children, grandchildren and close friends. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late, Iron Gordon, Sr. Of that union 3 children were born. She was then united in holy matrimony to the late Vincent Alexander and of that union 5 children were born. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories, 5 daughters, Delores Alexander (Robert) of Breaux Bridge, Patricia Taylor of Lafayette, Cynthia Alexander and Brenda Gail Roberts (Lester, Jr.), all of Cecilia, Debra Perro (Wilbert II) of Houston, TX; 4 sons, Joseph Allen Alexander of Milwaukee,WI, Iron Gordon, Jr. (Linda) of Breaux Bridge, Floyd Delone Alexander (Lucretia) of Mesa, AZ, Corbett Ray Alexander of Cecilia; 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; and her companion, John Williams of Grand Coteau. She was preceded in death by her husbands and parents; 4 sisters, Louisiana Dartez, Pauline Dartez, Mildred Journet, and Shirley Williams; 2 brothers, Corneilus and Carlton Gabriel; a daughter, Olivia Alexander Hampton; and a grandson, Christopher Alexander. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and continue at 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday. Pallbearers will be Iron Gordon, Jr., Corbett Ray Alexander, Joseph Allen Alexander, Kirby James Alexander, Floyd Delone Alexander, and Kevin Bernard Gordon. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Alexander, Lester Francis Roberts, Jr. Wilbert Carl Perro, II, Carroll Journet, Darrel Journet, Ernest Journet, Carlton Gabriel, Jr., Paul Milton Gabriel, Arthur Gabriel, John Gabriel, and Henry Dartez, Jr. "We are grateful for each of you who came to show your love and concern during this time of grief. Your comfort is a source of strength to us. We sincerely appreciate the visits, phone calls, prayers, flowers, cards and other remembrances. Your kind expressions of love will be cherished always. The Family." Pellerin Funeral Home of Cecilia is in charge of arrangements.
