Jackie was affectionately known to many as "Pop Jack". He was a devout Catholic and long-time parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church and was also very involved with the Cursillo Movement, Ultreya, and the Knights of Columbus. Pop Jack will be remembered for his spirituality and his favorite saying, "Sancitifying Grace", which allows us to not only live on a natural level, but on a super-natural level, "The Life of Christ within Us". He truly desired for all to know and study this beautiful mystery.
Jackie was a sugarcane farmer for most of his life, working alongside his dad, uncle, and cousins. He also enjoyed his time spent truck driving. Jackie loved drag racing and was proud to have introduced his kids to the sport. He always kept others laughing and loved everyone fiercely, no matter what. Pop Jack taught and raised his kids in faith, and he leaves behind memories that his family will cherish forever. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Velma Menard Comb; son, Carey Comb (Amy); daughters, Denise Fulton (Rhett) and Anita Rester (Glen); grandchildren, Lyle Landry (Bobbi), Mariah Rester, Gunner Rester, Devyn Rester, Lila Fulton, Robert Fulton, Leigh Fulton, Caeli Gregg (Evan), Ethan Comb, Ayden Comb and Greyson Comb; great-grandchildren, Lily Landry, Nora Landry, Jack Landry and two on the way; and his brother, Darrel Comb (Betty).
He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Theresa Domingue Comb; parents-in-law, Wilton and Inez Menard; brother-in-law, Allen Menard; and his sister-in-law, Yvette Cormier.
Pallbearers will be Lyle Landry, Ethan Comb, Robert Fulton, Glen Rester, Geoff Gallet, and Chase Murray.
Honorary pallbearer will be André Comb.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Gus Ingraldi, Dr. Ziad Ashkar, Dr. May and the entire team at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center 9 South for the care and compassion they provided.
