St. Martinville, LA - A loving husband, caring father, nurturing grandfather and great-grandfather, and a proud World War II Veteran, Jacques "Ned" Lasseigne, Sr. died on December 11, 2006 at his residence in St. Martinville. He was 84 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 14, 2006, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Ned was a lifelong resident of St. Martinville where he initially farmed cotton and sugar cane. Then in the early 1960's he entered the "traveling" dredge boating business working for T.L. James where he was Assistant Chief Engineer. Ned and his family often lived on short work assignments in Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, and various parts of Texas and Louisiana. Twenty years ago Ned / Pop-Pop retired from the dredge to be with his wife and spend quality time with his 9 children, 18 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. In 2003, it was discovered that one of his adult daughters - who at the time was 42 years old - was accidentally switched at birth, which meant Ned now had 10 children and 19 grandchildren.
Mr. Lasseigne is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Genevieve Duplantis, who was his soulmate and caretaker. Ned is also survived by his 10 children - Esther Lasseigne; Sheila Prioux (and husband, Gary Prioux); Jacques Lasseigne, Jr. (and wife, Anne Whittington); Andy Lasseigne (and wife, Joan Lasseigne); Clyde Lasseigne (and wife, Tammy Thibodeaux); Lise Romero (and husband, Roy Romero); Michele LeBlanc (and husband, Benny LeBlanc); Alvin Lasseigne (and wife, Paula Tassin); Claire Parr (and husband, Scott Parr); and Yvonne Blanchard (and husband, Bryan Blanchard). In addition, his 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren will remember Pop-Pop's kindness and his "high-fives."
Ned was preceded in death by his parents, Andre and Lelia Olivier Lasseigne. Ned was the last surviving sibling. He had one sister, Cleslie "Toot" Touchet; and four brothers, Clarence, Lloyd, J.B., and Ames. Ned has two surviving sisters-in-law, Elsie Lasseigne (widow of Lloyd) and Audrey (widow of J.B.).
Pallbearers will be Gary Prioux, Roy Romero, Benny LeBlanc, Scott Parr, Bryan Blanchard, and six of his grandsons, Joshua and Beau Lasseigne, Ryan Landry, Scott Lasseigne, Brock Blanchard, and Caleb Parr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Graham Lasseigne and Blake Blanchard.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday and continue until time of service on Thursday.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
