Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., on Monday, May 14, 2012, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel in Breaux Bridge, for James Paul Begnaud, 84, who passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2012.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. on Monday.
Mr. Begnaud was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, having proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army from August, 1949 until September, 1969. While he was stationed in Germany, Mr. Begnaud gave free haircuts to the children at the orphanage - they all referred to him as 'Mr. Fritz.'
He was the owner and operator of a lawn mower repair shop in Breaux Bridge for many years, and in his free time he enjoyed repairing things, woodworking and furniture making.
He was a member of the National Association of Uniformed Services (N.A.U.S.).
Survivors include his wife, Rose C. Begnaud of Breaux Bridge; one son, Paul C. Begnaud and wife, Margaret, of Tomball, TX; two daughters, Juliet Kesel and husband, James, of Lafayette, and Nanette Matrisciano of Orlando, FL; one brother, Clarence Begnaud and wife, Ruby, of New Iberia; one sister, Mildred Huval of Breaux Bridge; 12 grandchildren, Jaimie Guidry, Jessica Begnaud-Smith and husband, Jarrod, Daniel Begnaud, Ross Begnaud, Matthew Matrisciano, Andrew Matrisciano, Ethan Matrisciano, Michelle Kesel, Rachel Kesel, Christopher Kesel, and Erica Kesel; and two great grandchildren, Jackson and Jacob Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Valex and Marie Broussard Begnaud; three brothers, Howard, Chester, and Andrew Begnaud; and three sisters, Dorothy Hahn, Marguerite 'Sis' Blanchard, and Verna Guidry.
