New Iberia A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Monday, December 14, 2015 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in New Iberia for James Bod Bellot, 82, who died Friday, December 11, 2015, in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow Memorial Park Cemetery.
Msgr. Richard Green will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM Sunday. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM.
James was the son of Joseph Bellot and Elmira Martin Bellot, one of 10 children. He was born in the Atchafalaya swamp at a place called Lake Round, and later moved to Grand River. The family moved to the levee at Catahoula where he lived until he was twenty four.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and then moved to New Iberia, where he worked for United Gas, which became CenterPoint Energy, retiring after thirty eight years of service. James was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion.
The father of three children, his daughter, Debora Bellot Boudreaux and partner Craig Castille of New Iberia; sons, Glenn Michael Bellot and wife Shelia of Shreveport, and James Jimmy Bellot of New Iberia; step daughter, Mary Ann Viator Wilson of Scott; 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a brother, Lennis Bellot.
James worked as a down marker judge for Junior High, Freshman High, and New Iberia Senior at all football games, traveling as far as Shreveport, for 32 years. After retirement in 1995, he worked for different auto dealerships picking up and delivering new cars to the dealerships. He loved fishing, hunting, and working in his yard.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Bellot; mother, Elmira Martin Bellot; grandson, Justin Matthew Boudreaux; three sisters, Evelyn Bellot, Odelle Romig, Amiee MeMe Bellot Berard; and five brothers, Clarence Bellot, Maurice Bellot, Edward Bellot, Joseph Bellot, Jr., John Bellot; and a sister-in-law, Mary Grace Bellot.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Bellot, Mike Bellot, Lennis Bellot, Craig Castille, Karl Boudreaux, Sr., and Karl Deucie Boudreaux, Jr.
