James Laperouse

July 3, 1926 — August 8, 2017

St. Martinville - A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 11, 2017, at Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville for James Laperouse , 91, who passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Landmark of Acadiana Nursing Home. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Thursday, and continue on Friday at 7:00 am until 9:30 am. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Thursday. Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate at the Funeral Service. Interment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville. Mr. Laperouse was a veteran of World War II, honorably serving his country in the United States Marine Corps. After his retirement from the Louisiana Department of Transportation, he began working for the Louisiana Sugar Cane Cooperative and did some farming and crawfish farming, as well. James also did carpentry work and built many houses with Mr. Ben Prosper. He enjoyed being outdoors and especially loved to fish. James loved spending time with his family and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He was a member of American Legion, Woodmen of the World, and the Lions Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 Dorothy Dugas Laperouse; son, Albert Laperouse; daughters, Sheila Broussard and husband Mike, Evelyn Laviolette; sisters, JoAnn Amy and husband Ruffus, Dianne Menard, Linda Faye Hulin and husband Hubert, Jr.; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond and Inez Laperouse; daughters, Cynthia Laperouse and Joyce Sullivan; sisters, Hazel Belaire, Earline Choplin, Amythe Laperouse, Mazel DeRouen, Mabel Monte, Irene St. Germain and Suzanne Deslatte; brothers, Patrick Laperouse and Roy Laperouse. Pallbearers will be Cory Laperouse, Lance Laviolette, Luke Broussard, Shawn Hall, Hubert Hulin Jr., Mike Broussard, Tyler Laperouse and Sterling Laperouse.
