New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 13, 2007, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, in New Iberia for James Cecil Veillon, 73, who died Saturday, February 10, 2007 at his residence after a long battle with lung cancer.
Rev. Steve LeBlanc will be the Celebrant of the funeral mass.
Committal service will follow at St. Peters Church Cemetery in Grand Prairie with Rev. Gary Schexnayder officiating.
Cecil belonged to the Knights of Columbus, St. Peters Council #1208 since 1971. He was KC of the Year in 2000. Cecil was an usher at Sacred Heart of Jesus on the Teche Catholic Church and devoted many hours to the Boy Scouts. He was a former volunteer with the Bel Air-Olivier-Morbham Fire Department and a retired Solid Control Technician, as well as a former member of the New Iberia Hoedowners Square Dance Club.
Survivors include his wife Mary Sylvia Ortego Veillon of New Iberia; son, Paul Cecil Veillon and his wife Michele Hope; granddaughter Emily Cecile Veillon, all of Codorus, PA; brother, Carroll Veillon and his wife Barbara of Butte LaRose, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Tomma and Niza Fontenot Veillon and his brother Burnette Veillon.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday from 1:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus. Visitation will continue Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
Honored to serve as pallbearers; Carroll Veillon, Glenn Ortego, Kirk Dupre, Ray Higginbothom, Shane Veillon and George Courville.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Eldridge, Paul Bearb, Harold Halbert, Allan Ortego, Huey Ortego, Calvin Ardoin, Joe Courville, Meris Dupre, Lawrence Richard and Pat Carriere
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Rinaldi and the Oncology staff, Dr. Harkrider and Hospice of Acadiana, family and friends for the extraordinary and compassionate care given to Cecil during his illness.
