Cecilia- A Mass of Christian Burial will held at 11:00 am on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia for James “Jim” Venable, 84, who passed away May 20, 2023, at Southwest Louisiana Veteran's Home in Krotz Springs.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Cecilia on Thursday from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm and will continue Friday from 8:00 am until 10:30 am.
A rosary will be recited by Ruth Reed at 7:00 pm on Thursday.
Rev. Michael DeBlanc will officiate the funeral mass. Readers will be Martha Courville and Webb Reed. Gift bearer will be Heather Savoie.
Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia.
Born on November 24, 1938, in Arnaudville, Jim was a proud and honorable man who dearly loved his country. He had a personality that brought joy to every gathering he attended.
Jim served his country with honor and pride as a member of the United States Army. Following his service, he dedicated many years of his life to cooking for workers in the oilfields where he worked diligently to provide nourishing meals for all. He resided in Krotz Springs for many years and was a parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church. He served as a proud member of the American Legion Honor Guard of Port Barre. His hobbies included fishing, being at the camp and cooking for his friends and family. Throughout his life, James deeply valued family and friendship.
Jim is survived by his son, Charles J. Venable and his wife, Leona; granddaughter, Heather Venable Savoie and her husband, Kelly; great grandchildren, Emmett Savoie, Lucian Savoie, and Elijah Savoie; siblings, Rita Mae Hebert, Martha Ann Venable, Janie Jane Venable, Jack Venable, and Freida Venable; godchildren, his sister, Freida, Coy Courville and Catherine Miller.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Merlin Joseph Venable and Amelia Patin Venable; first wife, Nita Louise "Tooty" Miller Venable; second wife, Regina Venable; son, Calvin Venable; brothers, Thomas Courville, Joseph "Jay" Venable and Mike Venable.
Pallbearers will be Charles J. Venable, Kelly Savoie, Eric Courville, Webster Reed, Jeff Courville, Sydney "Chick" Bennet, TJ Bourque, Kevin Williams, Brody Boutte and Harvey LeBlanc.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Venable, Bruce Sharp, Emmett Savoie, Lucien Savoie, Merlin Venable, Ted Courville and Elijah Savoie.
James's admirable life story will be profoundly missed but not forgotten. To those who knew him best, he will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to providing excellent service to others, love for family, patriotism, honesty, and commitment towards life's journey.
May you rest in peace Mr. Venable, knowing that your contributions throughout your wonderful life will never be forgotten!
