James Melvin Voorhies

Pearl River, Louisiana - Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July, 14, 2009 at New Jerusalem Praise and Worship Center at 62340 Hwy 1090 in Pearl River, Louisiana, for James Melvin Voorhies, 66, who passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2009 in Breaux Bridge. Mr. Voorhies was a resident of Slidell, Louisiana for the past 12 years. He has worked in the transportation industry for over 45 years. He listened to music of all kinds, which brought great joy into his life. Survivors include his wife, Joanne Cannizzaro Voorhies of Slidell; his sons, James Melvin Voorhies, Jr. and his companion, Betty Guidry, of St. Martinville and Leonard Michael Voorhies and his wife, Latasha, of Slidell; his daughter, Joanne Voorhies McCarble and her husband, Michael, of Sulphur; his step-daughters, Kathleen M. Gill and her husband, Ray, of Pearland, Texas and Lynne McCarthy of New Orleans; his sisters, Marilyn McCarthy of Lacombe and Cheryl Hemphill of Foxworth Mississippi; his grandchildren, Heather, Summer, Dyllan and Brittany Voorhies, Ashley and Ryan McCarble, Kate Marks, Matthew, Timothy and Patrick Gill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin J. Voorhies and Thelma Pittman Voorhies and his brother, Stephen Voorhies.
