Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Janet 'Jan' Alexander, 69, who passed away at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center on Friday, November 30, 2012, the angel of mercy came to his loyal and faithful servant and summoned her home. She had conquered her long battle with cancer.. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Friday and continue at 7:00 am until 10:30 am on Saturday. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm on Friday. Rev. Joseph Campion will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Hilda Wiltz and Vanessa Jolivette. Gift Bearers will be Carla Wiltz Killingsworth and Tasey Alexander. Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge. Janet Alexander was born on January 16, 1943, to her parents, Eugenia Pete Alexander and Joseph Alexander, as a young girl Janet attended Breaux Bridge Primary School where she established some lifetime friendships. She went on to Carver High School where she was a member of the Girls Basketball Team, which she enjoyed. Early in life Jan accepted Christ as her personal Savior and wanted to be a Nun in her earlier days. Jan attended Holy Family Catholic Church while in Texas, but she was a lifetime, faithful, and dedicated member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church until her death. She prayed the Rosary, the Divine Mercies, and made Novenas on a daily basis. She was a firm believer in prayer. She was a member of the NAACP. She worked as a housekeeper in her early adult years in Rayne, Louisiana, where she made her home for over 18 years. She returned to Breaux Bridge and began her career as a CNA at Gary Memorial Hospital/St. Martin Hospital, where she happily worked for over 30 years. She also had the opportunity to live in Missouri City, TX for the past year where she made an impression on everyone that she came into contact with. Everyone that knew her knew she was a very caring and giving person. She was always there to help anyone who needed assistance. To family and close friends she will always and forever be remembered as a very clean woman, who could not tolerate any thing dirty in her presence. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Sandra Alexander Sinegal (James) of Missouri City, TX; her son, Gregory Portlock (Florence) of Lafayette, LA; her grandchildren, Isaiah Celestine, Cierra Constantine, and Laura Constantine; her brothers, John Alexander of Houston, TX, Vincent Alexander (Tasey) of Breaux Bridge, LA, Livingston Alexander (Evelyn) of Bradford, PA, and Nelson Wiltz (Mae) of Breaux Bridge, LA; her sisters, Fannie Alexander of Breaux Bridge, LA, Mary Williams (Junius) of Lafayette, LA, and Willie Mae Showers (Joseph) of Lafayette, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Eugenia Pete Alexander; her son, David Troy Alexander; her brothers, Chester Alexander, Robert Alexander, Sr., and Jimmy LeBlanc; her sister, Mary Irene Ledet; and her grandparents, John and Ella Pete. Pallbearers will be Jude Cole, Cornelius Sinegal, Timothy Wiltz, Clint Aubre, Ken Killingsworth and Xavier Stagg. Janet loved the Christmas Season and she will forever be remembered for singing her Christmas Carols. Always and Forever she will be cherished, loved, and missed by all who knew her.
