Janet Mestayer

New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia for Janet Romero Mestayer, 81, who passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017, in Abbeville. Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Rev. William Blanda will be the Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary, led by Rev. Keith Landry, will be prayed at 7:00 pm Tuesday. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 am until 1:30 pm. Mrs. Mestayer was born on September 12, 1936 in Iberia Parish to the late Edward and Addie Benoit Romero. At the age of 16, she quit school to work at the Evangeline Theater so that she could help her parents. Mrs. Mestayer retired from the Holiday Inn as a waitress, and her hobbies included bowling, playing cards, going to the casino with her husband, traveling, and crocheting. She would always help her family in any way possible. A devout Catholic, Mrs. Mestayer attended Mass daily. She traveled to Medjugorje several times to visit the Miracle of Medjugorje. She also visited Fatima, and Lourdes. Survivors include her one and only daughter, Carolyn M. Henry and husband Terry of New Iberia; son, Wade M. Mestayer and wife Elise Mixon Mestayer of New Iberia; sister, Geneviere Romero Price of New Iberia; brothers, Eric Romero and wife Dolores of New Iberia, Ernest Romero and wife Bobbie of Lydia, Lloyd James Romero and wife Linda of New Iberia; sister-in-law, Gayle Romero Ferguson of New Iberia; grandchildren, Jillian Moore of New Iberia, Zachary Mestayer and wife Shaun of Baton Rouge, Claudia Moore and significant other Curley Randall of Lafayette; great grandchildren, Taysha Hill Frances and husband Kasey, Bryce Joseph, Palmer Mestayer, Courtlynn Randall, Caitlynn Randall, and Cadell Randall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Carroll Mestayer, son, Clayton Mestayer, brother, Murphy Romero, and brother-in-law, Ronnie Price. The family would like to give special thanks to the staffs of Consolata Nursing Home, and Maison de Monde Nursing Home, and especially to her sister, Genevieve Price for giving her a home with special love and care.
