A memorial service was held Monday, February 1, 2021 for Jarrod Louis Landry, 35 at Pellerin Funeral Home in Cecilia. Interment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia. The funeral service was officiated by Pastor Danny Hebert with Anna Olivia serving as prayer leader and Pat Menard as vocalist.
Blessed with a quick wit and sharp intellect Jarred was a lifelong learner and so excelled at almost anything he tried. He was a 2003 graduate of Cecilia High School where he became a distinguished member of the speech and debate team for four years, earning a ruby stone as a freshman. Known by many as “Sensei Jarrod”, he trained and excelled in martial arts from a very young age, earning the degree of Black Belt at only 14. He went on to train and inspire many other youngsters as both a student and instructor with the Patrick Stelly School of Martial Arts in Breaux Bridge, LA.
Fluent in both English and French as student of French emersion in both elementary and middle school, Jarrod’s language skills served him well as a member of the Charlie Battery, 1st Battalion, 19th Field Artillery of the United States Army, where he was an Air Borne Combat Medic and received an Honorable Discharge in 2005.
Jarrod’s curiosity and compassion made him a true friend to all. Through his recovery he was like a diamond in the rough - the darkness was being cut away, revealing his true brilliance.
Survivors include his parents, Edwin Louis Landry and Brenda Lanclos Landry; brother, Orry Landry (Kami Hebert); his Godmother, Phyllis B Meche; numerous friends; and his cat Jesse.
He is preceded in death by August and Mildred Louviere Lanclos, maternal grandparents; Edwin Louis, Sr. and Nela Latiolais Landry, paternal grandparents; and Nerry (uncle) and Marlene Lanclos.
Pallbearers were Orry L. Landry, Thomas Brady, Garret LeBlanc, Timmy Wiltz, Colby Burghdoff, and Patrick Stelly.
The family extends warmest gratitude to Sensei Patrick Stelly, who was like a second father as well as coach and mentor to Jarrod; Danny Hebert of Riverside Church of Christ; Stanley Marcum, Mentor; The Grove Treatment Center and Aftercare of Baton Rouge, LA; and his support team in Baton Rouge.
