St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, March 20, 2008, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Jean Demas Simon, 77, who passed away on Monday, March 17, 2008 at his residence.
Entombment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum, in St. Martinville.
Fr. Austin Leger, Pastor of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, will conduct the funeral service. ?Readers will be Kayla Simon and Brandy Simon. ?His grandchildren will serve as gift bearers.
Mr. Simon was retired with the State of Louisiana, Department of Transportation, where he was a supervisor, and he was also the owner of a grocery store. ?He served in the U. S. Army National Guard for a number of years. ?Mr. Simon loved the outdoors and gardening, but what he treasured most in life, was the time he spent with his lovely wife of 56 years, and his family.
Survivors include his wife, Mattie Mae Simon, of St. Martinville; three sons, Russell Simon, of Opelousas, Randall Simon, of Breaux Bridge, and Dana Simon and his wife, Connie, of St. Martinville; one brother, Harry J. Simon and his wife, Ruby, of New Iberia; three sisters, Olita Romero, of New Iberia, Evelyn Romero, of St. Martinville, and Marie Landry, of New Iberia; four grandchildren, Christopher Simon and his wife, Tia, of Arnaudville, Brandy Simon, of St. Martinville, Brooke Simon, of Lafayette, and Kayla Simon, of Arnaudville; and four great grandchildren, Alana Simon, Treylan Linden, Andrew Simon, and Alissa Simon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Demas and Carmilite Champagne Simon.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Wednesday and continue at 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.
A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Ferril Verret, Vernon Verret, Shane Verret, Randall Simon, Dana Simon, and Christopher Simon.
Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
