Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, on Friday, July 12, 2013, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Jerry "Doggay" Berard, 79, who passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 11:00 am until 10:00 pm on Thursday, and continue at 8:00 am until 9:30 am on Friday. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Thursday. Deacon Marcel 'Butch' Hebert will officiate at the funeral service. Scriptures will be read by Monica Barker. ;Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. Mr. Berard, better known to family and friends as 'Doggay,' was a Soybean Farmer for 30 years and worked for St. Martin Parish Government for 23 years. He was married to his wife, Barbara, for 32 wonderful years. He enjoyed camping and cooking, but most especially loved spending time with his family. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Bryce and Bailee. He is survived by his wife, Barbara B. Berard of Breaux Bridge; his daughter, Diona (Myles) Foster of Breaux Bridge; step daughter, Nanette Barker of Breaux Bridge; two step sons, Kevin (Monica) Barker of Cecilia, and Jerry (Lisa) Barker of St. Martinville; three brothers, Michael (Billie) Berard of Breaux Bridge, John (Rona) Berard of Walker, and Darrell "Mayeaux" Berard of Breaux Bridge; his sister, Linda Pontiff of Arnaudville; two grandchildren, Bryce and Bailee Tauzin; three step grandchildren, Stephen, Nyla and Lillie Barker; and one step great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter "Bateaux" and Theresa Serrette Berard; two brothers, George and Antoine Berard; and his sister, Louella Babineaux. Pallbearers will be George Berard, Myles Foster, Kevin Barker, Bryce Tauzin, Dane Berard, Jeff Berard, and Kenneth 'Pete' Berard. Honorary pallbearer will be John Berard. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Salman Malad, the staff at Cancer Center of Acadiana, 9th floor nurses at LGMC and Southern Care Hospice for their loving care and compassion.
