“For God so loved the world that He gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not perish but have eternal life” – John 3:16
Jerry Booth Wallace was born May 22, 1935, in DeQuincy, Louisiana, and peacefully passed away at his residence, surrounded by his loving family and friends on December 1, 2024.
Jerry was a graduate of Northeast Pharmacy School in Monroe, Louisiana and dedicated his career as a pharmacist to helping the community, often making after hour calls to help patients. He enjoyed traveling, golf, LSU sports, and spending time with family. Flying was a passion of his as he enjoyed holding a pilot license and taking his family on adventures.
Jerry was Co-Founder of JayMac Pharmaceuticals, served several decades as Chairman of the Board of Louisiana Wholesale Drug Company, was an owner of Delaune’s Pharmacy for over 50 years until his retirement, and earned the distinction of Louisiana Independent Pharmacist of the Year. Jerry also was a charter member and past president of Cajun Kiwanis.
Jerry’s faith and church involvement were paramount, and he shared his love for our Lord with his family. He truly turned worship into witness as he proudly served many years as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for First Methodist Church of New Iberia, sang in the church choir for over 60 years, and was instrumental in the restoration of the historic stained-glass windows in the church.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of nearly 67 years, Audrey Arabie Wallace, two daughters: Sheila DeRouen, wife of Lynn DeRouen, and Jayne Dishman, wife of Marty Dishman; four grandchildren: Michelle DeRouen, Haley Dishman (Jason), Layne Dishman and Sarah Dishman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Marie Wallace, brother Frank “Rod” Wallace and an infant brother.
A celebration of life will be held at First Methodist Church of New Iberia on Wednesday December 4, 2024, at noon with visitation in the sanctuary beginning at 10:00 am until time of service. Officiating will be Rev. Xavier Torres, assisted by family friend Paul Fontenot. The eulogy will be presented by Michelle DeRouen. Those holding the distinction of pallbearer include Lynn DeRouen, Marty Dishman, Layne Dishman, Brian Arabie, Cecil “Bill” Miller, and Harold “Towny” Robinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Tres Miller, Dennis Mestayer, Dr. Hugh Larriviere, Dennis Bingham, Charlie Bonin, Sam Lolan and Russell Gilliam. Interment will be held at Holy Family Cemetery, 2807 Curtis Lane, New Iberia, Louisiana.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Acadiana, the physicians dedicated to Jerry’s care, and Pellerin Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry’s memory may be made to First Methodist Church of New Iberia Choir Fund, 119 Jefferson Street, New Iberia, LA 70560.
