New Iberia - A Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, April 8, 2019, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church in New Iberia for Jerry John "J.J." Dooley, 79, who passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, in Lafayette.
Entombment with military honors will follow at the church cemetery.
Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be at the church from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm on Monday.
A rosary, led by the Nativity Rosary Group, will be prayed at 11:30 am on Monday.
A lifelong resident of Iberia Parish, Jerry John "J.J." Dooley was born on November 17, 1939 to the late Charles Nelson Dooley and Frances Galtier Cormier. He was a 1957 graduate of St. Peter's College, and proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corp., 1st Marine Division, 7th Marine Regt. He was a retired insurance agent with Union National Life Insurance Company, and a faithful longtime member of Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church. He was a member of the Rosary Group and Prayer Group, leader of the Baptismal Team, and served as a Eucharistic Minister. His hobbies included, golf, fishing and hunting, and he was an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints, LSU, and NY Yankees. J.J. was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed.
Mr. Dooley is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Gloria Watkins Dooley; sons, Darren Dooley and wife Melissa, Drew Dooley and fiancée Camille, Dwight Dooley and wife Kathleen, Donald Dooley and fiancée Jessica, Dean Dooley and wife Candy; daughters, Dawn Guidry and husband Brent, Denise Hebert and husband Barry, Deah Romero and husband Russ; sisters, Gail Larive and Dyan C. Long; 25 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great grandchild, Aicen Clement.
