Joan Derouen Ellender

New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, on Thursday, September 3, 2015, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Joan Ellender, 82, who passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015, in New Iberia. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Mark Derise will be the Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Wednesday. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM. A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Ellender was born on August 21, 1933 to Moise and Martha Romero Derouen and was a teacher at Mount Carmel Academy for 24 years.She was a member of the Garden Club, and her hobbies included gardening, reading, and crafts, however her passion was teaching.. Survivors include her children, Michel E. Comeaux and companion William W. Harkrider of New Iberia, Stephanie E. LeBlanc and husband Darron J. LeBlanc of New Iberia, Clifford G. Ellender of New Iberia, Patrick S. Ellender of New Iberia, Timothy J. Ellender and wife Kyla of Westfield, IN; grandchildren, Skipper Ellender, Christopher Ellender, Ashlee Gary, Shelly LeBlanc, Haley Ellender, Shane Comeaux, Brittany LeBlanc, Meredith Ellender, and MacKinley Ellender; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald Derouen and wife Eileen of New Iberia; In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Mickey Ellender. Pallbearers will be Timothy Ellender, Shane Comeaux, Skipper Ellender, Jake Borill, Chad Gary, and Ryan Landry. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Mount Carmel, P.O.
