Coteau - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Coteau for JoAnn G. Romero, 76, who passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017.
A gathering of family and friends will be at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia from 2:00 PM until 10:00 PM on Monday, and continue on Tuesday at 8:00 AM until 9:15 AM.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM on Monday, led by the Men's Rosary Group.
Rev. Brian Harrington will be the Celebrant.
Interment will follow at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery in Coteau.
A patient and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, JoAnn Gary Romero was born on August 11, 1940 to the late Don Louis "Pop Yo" and Laurence "Mom Doux" Touchet Gary. She and Brud married in 1958, and they had four children. JoAnn was very faithful, and never missed Mass. Although she never learned to drive, she always found a way to church. She loved gardening, cooking and taking care of children. She babysat all of her grandkids at one time or another, and she enjoyed taking care of all the neighborhood kids; she fed them all!
JoAnn is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Clifford "Brud" Romero; sons, Barry Romero and wife Pamela, and Kenneth P. Romero and companion, Mary Wagley ; daughters, Cindy R. Dupuy and husband Bryan, and Dawn R. Delahoussaye and husband Cory; all of Coteau; sisters, Mabel Touchet of Coteau, Belva Richard and husband Jessie Richard, Sr. of Youngsville, and Barbara Clark and husband Ronny of New Iberia; grandchildren, Cheri Derouen, Erica Romero, Leah Peltier, Brittany Landry, Alan M. Dupuy, Chelsea Romero, Caleb Romero, Justin Delahoussaye, and Kartni Desormeaux; 13 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Zerbia and Leroy Gary; sister, Ella Mae Peltier; In-laws, Ossie "Pierre" and Elina Fabre Romero; sister-in-law, Lucille Gary; and four brothers-in-law, Donald Romero, C.D. Bourque, Eluse "King" Touchet and Lloyd Peltier.
Pallbearers are Alan Dupuy, Caleb Romero, Trayton Derouen, Hunter Derouen, Tyson Chastant, and Larry Romero.
Honorary pallbearers are Bryan Dupuy, Cory Delahoussaye, Ryker Landry, Landon Dupuy, Kalem Delahoussaye and Kason Desormeaux.
