Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m., on Monday, November 23, 2009, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for John Allen Breaux, 81, who passed away on Friday, November 20, 2009, at his residence in Jarreau, LA.
Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Reverend Greg Daigle, Pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lakeland, LA, will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Berna Breaux and Jennifer Earle. Gifts Bearers will be Kyle Breaux and Blair Breaux.
John Allen retired as a supervisor from the State of Louisiana Fire Marshall's Office after 33 years of service. He was the owner and operator of Breaux's Distributing Company.
John Allen was also retired from the Breaux Bridge Volunteer Fire Company, where he served as the Fire Chief for 30 years. In 1967 he helped organize and create the parish-wide fire district for St. Martin Parish, and also served as the Chairman for over 20 years. Under his leadership in the Fire District, he was instrumental in helping to obtain funding for the building of eleven fire stations, as well as the purchase of thirteen fire trucks for St. Martin Parish fire stations.
John Allen was recognized in 1977, by the Breaux Bridge Volunteer Fire Company, with the naming of fire truck Unit No. 104, as "Chief John Allen Breaux."
John Allen unselfishly dedicated his time and knowledge, to the City of Breaux Bridge, as well as its citizens, along with the entire St. Martin Parish Fire District. He was a great man and leader of the community and will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the distinct honor of knowing and working with him throughout the years.
Earlier this year he was bestowed the honor of being named the reigning "2009 Crawfish King" by the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival Association.
Survivors include his wife, Daisy Seaux Breaux, of Jarreau; two sons, Glen Breaux and his wife, Kay, and David Breaux and his wife, Berna, all of Breaux Bridge; his daughter, Karen Louviere and her husband, Richard, of Breaux Bridge; two step sons, Tommy Faul, of Cankton, and Brian Faul and his wife, Lisa, of Carencro; two step daughters, Jana Dore and her husband, Andre, of Lafayette, and Paula Earle and her husband, Richard, of Youngsville; his brother, Donald Breaux and his wife, Judy, of Baton Rouge; a sister, Joyce Leatherman, of Houston, TX; and 3 grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren, and 1 step great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Yolande Domingues Breaux; his first wife and mother of his children, Janet Theriot Breaux; an infant son, Ronnie Paul Breaux; and his brother, James "Canook" Breaux.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday and continue at 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Monday.
A rosary will be recited at time 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.
Honored to serve as his Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers, are the active and retired members of the Breaux Bridge Volunteer Fire Company.
The family would like to extend thanks to Pointe Coupee Hospice for their care and compassion during his illness, as well as give special thanks to his caregivers, Cynthia and Davis James, for their unconditional and constant care of him.
