Gilton served in the Air Force and was stationed in Great Falls, Montana. In 1953 following his service to his country, he returned to New Iberia. Upon his return home, he began working for Shell Oil Company at Weeks Island. During his 36 year tenure with Shell Oil, he worked in the US and International waters. The majority of his stories reflect the time he spent in Cameroon, Africa and Rio, Brazil.
After his 36 years with Shell, he retired and began working on his farm full time. Besides his children, grandchildren and dogs, he loved to raise cattle, horses, and ride on his covered wagon.
Gilton was the loving father of 10 children. Although authoritatian he found it important for his children to be kind, love one another and respect others.
We'd like to thank the staff at Consolata Nursing Home for caring for our father with endless love and kindness. We'd also like to thank his amazing caregivers, Debra Hill, Sheila Romero and Denise Kilchrist along with Charles Courville. Their love and compassion gave our family great comfort. For this we will be forever grateful.
