John Lee Dugas, Sr.

December 14, 1951 — October 19, 2020

St. Martinville - A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, October 23, 2020, at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville for John Lee Dugas, Sr., 68, who passed away on Monday, October 19, 2020, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7:30 am until 9:45 am. A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 am on Friday. Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate at the Funeral Service. Interment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville. John “Doogie” Dugas lived his entire life in Parks, Louisiana. He worked in his father’s business, Randal Dugas Grocery, through his childhood, and he became the owner and expanded the business with his wife and family. John was elected as the Mayor of Parks for 28 years, where he was able to help develop the community and benefit many of its residents. He was a community leader and had built relationships with most, if not all, of those in Parks. John had a passion for hunting, fishing, and the outdoors, spending many of his days in the woods or on the water. He was the owner of “John Dugas Hunting Club”, a large hunting lease in Junction, Texas. In Junction he made life-long memories with his kids and many friends of their first successful hunt. He spent countless nights entertaining others with delicious food, good music, and plenty of cold drinks. Many people will remember his Tarzan yell as a sign of the good times to come. John was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a sweet grandfather (“Pop”). He valued family and prioritized making lasting memories with them. He was not a man of many words, but his words had a strong impact on all of those that were part of his life. He will be missed deeply by everyone who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Jeaninne M. Dugas; daughters, Shannon (Evan Madoff) Dugas, Lisa (Dwight) Dupuis and Nicole (Andrew) Comeaux; sons, John (Kristie Poirier) Dugas Jr., Craig (Pam) Dugas and Christopher (Michelle) Dugas; his grandchildren, Ethan Dupuis, Keegan Dugas, Hudson Comeaux, Jax Dugas, Andee Comeaux, Brooklyn Dugas-Madoff and Caidden Martin; sisters, Doreen (Allan) Durand, Faye (Kirby) Guidry, Gypsy "Itty" (Bobby) Bryan and Alice (Bob) Greer; and sisters-in-law, Lorena Dugas and Yvonne Dugas. He was preceded in death by his father, Randal A. Dugas; mother, Mary Lou Degeyter Lasseigne; stepfather, Clet Lasseigne; and brothers, Claude Dugas, Randal Dugas, Michael Dugas and Philip Dugas. Pallbearers will be John Dugas Jr., Craig Dugas, Christopher Dugas, Ethan Dupuis, Keegan Dugas and Andrew Comeaux. Honorary pallbearers will be Hudson Comeaux, Jax Dugas, Caidden Martin, Dwight Dupuis and Evan Madoff.
