BreauxBridge - Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for John Henry 'Shaft' Gabriel, 53, who died on Wednesday, July 13, 2011. Fr. Joseph Campion will officiate at the funeral service. Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge. Better known to his family and friends, as 'Shaft,' John was a carpenter by trade and an all-around handyman who could do just about anything. In his free time enjoyed listening to music, shooting pool, and he most especially loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his friend, Mary Lee of Cecilia; two brothers, McKinley Gabriel (Mary) of Breaux Bridge, and Michael Gabriel (Jacqueline) of Lafayette; six sisters, Marie Serina Soloman (Marshall), Shirley Journet, Hilda Ames (Wallace), Dorothy Gabriel (Alfred), Jeanette Gabriel, all of Breaux Bridge, and Geraldine Gabriel of St. Martinville; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Mae Journet and John Gabriel; and three sisters, Eunice, Mary Ann, and Jeanette Gabriel. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Pellerin Funeral Homeof Breaux Bridge is in charge of arrangements.
