New Iberia - Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia for John Ray Herring, 75, who passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, with military honors.
Rev. Ed Downs will officiate.
A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home.
A resident of Loreauville, Mr. Herring was born on October 25, 1941 to the late Raybon and Ruby Lee Busby Herring. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Enterprise, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and worked as an auditor for the State of Louisiana. Mr. Herring was member of the First Baptist Church of New Iberia, where he served as a deacon, and the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed playing music, fishing, watching FOX News, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Breaux Herring of Loreauville; son, Joshua John Herring and wife Kristi of Abbeville; step sons, Kevin Ledford and wife Aimee of Loreauville, Christian Ledford and wife Elizabeth of Lakeland, Florida; sisters, Janice Rosalind Sonnier and husband Shine of Breaux Bridge, Jane Rebecca Harang and husband Warren of Donaldsonville; grandchildren, Peyton Ledford, Gerad Landry, III, Garrett Ledford, Austin Herring, Jenna Herring; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, JoAnn Edler Herring; brother, James Rudolph Herring; and a nephew, Britton Reid Herring.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Ledford, Warren Harang, Shine Sonnier, Mark Edler, Anthony Bourque, Adam Sonnier, and Lee Harang.
Honorary pallbearers include Chris Ledford, Gerad Landry, Garrett Ledford, Carson Sonnier, and Warren Harang, IV.
