Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am, on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for John Daday John, 88, who passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015, at Lafon Nursing Home in New Orleans.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7:00 am until 10:00 am on Saturday.
A rosary will be prayed at 8:00 am on Saturday.
Rev. Joseph Campion will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Katrina Thomas, Kenitha Grooms-Williams, and Cecelia Brown. Gift Bearers will be Mikquel John, Jon Thomas, Alex Williams, Destiny Brown, and Jasmine John. Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge.
Mr. John was a retired landscaper who enjoyed going to church, praying the rosary, and entertaining family and friends barbecuing at family gatherings. Baseball was one of his favorite sports which he enjoyed playing during his younger days. Mr. John cherished the moments that he spent with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his children, Audrey Lombard of Baton Rouge, Helen Davis of Memphis, TN, Alice Grooms and husband Kenneth of New Orleans, Harold John of New Orleans, and Michael John of New Orleans; brother, Casey Alexander of Breaux Bridge; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Louisiana Thibodeaux John; sister, Alberta Pete; and brother, Tarlton John.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Grooms, Michael John, Quintin Spencer, Joseph Richardson, Frederick Gillam, Randy Gillam, and Curtis Green.
Honorary pallbearers will be Caroll Barber, Harold John Jr., Hillary Williams Jr., Jhajuan Countee, Malik Gillam, Michael John, Harold John, and Wayne Kenneth Phillips.
