Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be conducted for John Preston Leblanc, age 90, at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, with the Rev Louis Allen Breaux officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Garden Mausoleum at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.. Visitation will resume at 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Readers will be Denise and John Dupont. Gift Bearers will be Nathan, Nicholas, Patrick and Melissa Dupont.
A native of Henderson and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge and Plaquemine, Mr. Leblanc died on January 24, 2009 at St. Agnes Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Breaux Bridge after a lengthy illness. While in Plaquemine he was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He worked for Exxon Corporation for 36 years and retired in April 1976. At that time he moved back to St. Martin Parish but later moved to Plaquemine to be near his only daughter.
He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and the Exxon Retiree Clubs until he was unable to participate in such activities. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific conflict aboard the USS Pickens from April 20, 1944 until January 6, 1946 when he was honorably discharged.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Lena Guidry Leblanc; his daughter, Sandra Leblanc Dupont; his son, Henry Preston Leblanc; and his grandson, Mark Raymond Dupont. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Henry Preston and Anna Leblanc; and his siblings Ophilia Leblanc Frederick, Edith Leblanc Melancon and Jean Harris Leblanc.
He is survived by his son-in-law, Clarence "Bubby" Dupont and his wife, Dana; his five grandchildren, John Ory Dupont of Plaquemine, Shannon Joseph Dupont of Baton Rouge, Melissa Ann Dupont of San Diego, Ca., Andrew Preston "Andy" Leblanc and his wife, Lacy of Shreveport and Shawn Christopher Leblanc of Lafayette; his great-grandchildren; Michael Dupont, Jacob Dupont, Nathan Dupont, Nicholas Dupont, and Patrick Dupont, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be John Dupont, Shannon Dupont, Andy Leblanc, Shawn Leblanc, Michael Dupont, and Jacob Dupont.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Gerard Falgoust of Plaquemine, Dr. Warren Degatur, Jr. of Breaux Bridge, all the care givers at St. Martin Hospital, St. Agnes Healthcare and Hospice of Acadiana for the excellent care given to Mr. Leblanc.
