Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a .m., on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for John 'Boysie' Edgar Martin, Sr., 85, who passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at his residence. The readings will be done by the visiting priests. Gift Bearers will be Jensie Darby, Nicole Hegger, Andrea Dupuis, Melanie Latiolais, and Sadie Camel. Entombment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. Mr. Martin was a veteran of World War II, having honorably served his country in the United States Navy. In 1972, Boysie became the owner/dealer of Domingues Motors and in 1983 renamed the dealership Martin Chevrolet, which was moved to its present location at Mills Avenue and Rees Street. In 1985, he retired and sold the dealership to his son, Johnny. Boysie has always been an avid sports fan and hunted and fished in the Basin on a regular basis. Aside from his business and personal life, Boysie has and continues to play a role in the success of Gary Memorial Hospital, which is now St. Martin Hospital. In 1967, he was appointed Commissioner of St. Martin Parish Hospital Service District No. 2 by the St. Martin Parish Police Jury, where he has served since its existence. In 1991, he was elected to serve as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners. Survivors include his loving wife of 21 years, Evelyn LaLande. Martin of Breaux Bridge; his son, John E. Martin, Jr. and wife, Diana, of Breaux Bridge; two daughters, Ginger M. Delahoussaye and husband, Chris, of Greenville, SC; and Tessie M. Fuhrer and husband, Bill, of Youngsville; his step son, Steven LaLande; two step daughters, Terry L. Guidry and husband, Richard; and Nancy L. Camel and husband, Murray , all of Breaux Bridge; one brother, Leonard 'Nookie' Martin and wife, Florine, of Arnaudville; two sisters, Elsie Martin Hardy of Arnaudville and Barbara Martin Domingues, of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Corey Martin and wife, Robin, of Breaux Bridge, Nicole D. Hegger and husband, Matt, of Greenville, SC, Brent Delahoussaye and wife, Ashley, of Greenville, SC, and Jensie Darby and fianc, Marcus Guilbeaux, of Houston, TX; five step grandchildren, Andrea G. Dupuis and husband Jason, of St. Louis, MO; Melanie G. Latiolais and husband, Adam, Sadie Camel, Adam Camel and wife, Amanda, and Andy Camel and wife, Kelli, all of Breaux Bridge; two great grandchildren, Paxton Martin of Breaux Bridge, and Katelyn Hegger of Greenville, SC; three step great grandchildren, Jenna and Elyse Latiolais of Breaux Bridge, Sarah Dupuis of St. Louis, MO; and his sister-in-law, Madeline Domingues Lastrapes of Breaux Bridge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Alma Deroussell Martin; his first wife, Roma Domingues Martin; a grandson, Brooks Martin; step father, Luke Courville; and two brothers-in-law, Abel Hardy and Lester Domingues. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and continue on Wednesday at 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Corey Martin, Brent Delahoussaye, Chris Delahoussaye, Bill Fuhrer, Richard Guidry, and Murray Camel. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Frey, Steve Frey, Adam and Andy Camel, Leonard 'Nookie' Martin, Paul Cormier, Clayton Castille, and the employees of Martin Chevrolet. Donations may be made in his honor to St. Theresas Hospice, 100 General Mouton, Lafayette, LA 70501.
