Breaux Bridge - John Bartholomew Menard, 82, died Sunday, September 11, 2011. He donated his body to science in an effort to find a cure for Vitiligo.
He was a charter member of the American Legion (40 & 8). He served as a two-term commander. He also served in the Honor Guard, State Flag Barrier, and was a Sgt at Arms. He was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver and True Friend of LaPointe. His hobbies included reading the newspaper, working crossword puzzles, playing solitaire and word games, watching sports and westerns, going to conventions, and praying the rosary.
He is survived by nine children, Albert, Rachel, Eric, Randall (Centrell), Andrea, Phyllis (Andrew), Michael, Clyde (Sheila), and Elridge (Pauline); four sisters-in-law, Evelyn Menard, Brenda Berard, Yvonne Berard, and Mary Berard; two brothers-in-law, Ronald Berard and Lawrence Zeno; Van Ray Baltazar, who was like a son to him; 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mercy and Condile Menard; his wife, Virginia 'Mom Sue' Menard; two children, Rickey and Terry; one grandchild, Terrance Lastraps; ; one brother, Felix 'Badin' Menard; his in-laws, Lillie Mae Berard, Lambert Berard, and George Zeno; Joseph 'T-Cha' Landor, who he thought of as a brother.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 17, from 8 am to 11 am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. ; The rosary will begin at 8 am with the tribute immediately following.
