New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia for John David Sorrel Sr., 76, who passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016, in New Iberia.
Interment will follow in Beau Pre Cemetery in Jeanerette, with military honors by the Iberia Honor Guard.
Rev. Albert Alexander will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Friday. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM.
A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Sorrel was born on November 15, 1939 to Solange and Katherine Indest Sorrel. He was a graduate of the last class from St. Peter's College, and he proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Mr. Sorrel worked for Sorrel Electric for 12 years, then retired from Texaco after 22 years of service as a master electrician. After retirement, he worked for at Preventive Maintenance for 17 years as a Project Engineer. A member of the Knights of Columbus, he was also an adult leader in the Boy Scouts for many years, and a volunteer at Dauterive Hospital. Mr. Sorrel was a devoted husband and father, and he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and helping others.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Renner Sorrel; daughters, Nanette Marie Sorrel Leleux and husband Chris of New Iberia, Suzette Louise Sorrel Bonneval and husband David of New Iberia, Danielle Amber Sorrel Bouy and husband Robert of Boling Green, Virginia; son, John David Sorrel, Jr. and wife Lisa Boney Sorrel of New Iberia; brothers, Allen Sorrel of New Iberia, Donald Sorrel of New Iberia, Michael Sorrel and wife Mary of Marietta, Georgia; sister, Kathy Little and husband Don of Toledo Bend; grandchildren, Matthew Leleux, Andrew Leleux, Catherine Nguyen, Grace Leleux, David Bonneval, II, Jolee Bonneval, Natasha Sorrel, Amber Bouy, Amalee Bouy, Amya Bouy; great grandchildren, Paxton Nguyen, Penelope Nguyen, Louis Dore, and Etta Dore.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Eddie Sorrel, and Billy Sorrel; aunt, Delna Indest.
Pallbearers will be Robert Bouy, Allen Sorrel, David Bonneval, Andrew Leleux, David Bonneval, II, Matthew Leleux, and Chris Leleux.
