Joseph Roosevelt Alexander

Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Joseph Roosevelt Alexander, 86, who passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette. Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge. Fr. Daniel Bastinelle, SSJ will officiate the service. Readers will be Elonda Denise Simien and Melissa Hill. Gift bearers will be Breoni Alexander and Ashley Alexander. Mr. Alexander was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing cards, playing baseball in his 20s (he was a pitcher). He was the neighborhood barber for over 35 years. He worked all his life to take care of his family. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include six sons, Robert Alexander and his wife, Delores, Charles Gerald Alexander and his wife, Shirley,all of Breaux Bridge, Joseph Carroll Alexander of Franklin, Wilbert James Alexander, of Breaux Bridge, Hebert Lee Alexander and his wife, Doris, of Baytown, TX, and Herman Alexander, of Breaux Bridge; four daughters, Mary Ella Lewis and her husband, Samuel, Mary Joyce Williams and her husband, John Harold, all of Houston, TX, Betty Jane Hedgepeth and her husband, James, of Midwest City, OK, and Sylvia Ann Lewis and her husband, Larry, of Breaux Bridge; one brother, Caffery Bernard Alexander, of Breaux Bridge; 30 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Lewis Alexander; his parents, Bernard and Sylvia Celestine Alexander; and two brothers, Rochelle and Irving Alexander, Sr. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Friday and continue at 7:00 a.m. until10:00 a.m. on Saturday. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday. Pallbearers will be Charles Gabriel Alexander, Dominic Martinez, Shawn Anthony Williams, Bryson Michael Alexander, Patrick Alexander and Terry Demetrius Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Gerald Alexander, Joseph Carroll Alexander, Wilbert Alexander, Herbert Alexander, Herman Alexander, Robert Alexander, Caffery Alexander, Russell Alexander, Lionel Alexander, Shelton Alexander, Irvin Alexander, Jr., Freddy Alexander, Brent Alexander and Nerry Alexander. The family would like to offer a special thank you to his two caregivers, Sherika Solomon and Herman Alexander. Also, thank you goes out to Volunteers of America, Lafayette General Medical Center, Concepts of Care Home Health Service, Activities of Daily Living, Hospice of Acadiana and Golden Rule.
